Yorkshire and the Humber

Combining urban settlements and extensive rural areas, Yorkshire and the Humber faces issues including housing demand and affordability, regeneration and renewal.

Yorkshire and the Humber has more national park land than any other of England’s regions, but it also includes major towns and cities such as Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Hull and York. North Yorkshire and the Humber area are predominantly rural, while South and West Yorkshire are mainly urban.

The decline of traditional industries, along with greater household mobility and changes in people’s aspirations, has led to a complex market of demand patterns across the region. House prices mean that home ownership is often out of the reach of lower-income families and first-time buyers. We are looking for innovative ways of addressing these issues and maintaining momentum in the current economic downturn.

  • Housing Growth Points: We are working with the government and local authorities to establish investment programmes support housing growth and the delivery of eco-towns in West and South Yorkshire.
