South East

In the South East, intense pressures from housing growth and economic success sit alongside the need for regeneration in less advantaged areas.

The South East region includes the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex. The HCA team in the South East is responsible for delivering a wide range of government and regional programmes, including Thames Gateway.

In addition to our programmes we provide expert advice and support on development, planning, innovation and design to our partners, and have a track record for high quality and delivery.

Our priorities

The HCA’s priorities for the South East are to:

  • unlock surplus public sector land and brownfield sites for housing developments
  • regenerate town and city centres, including those in Ashford, Slough, Crawley and Bracknell
  • deliver new and affordable homes in award winning developments
  • work with public sector partners to deliver new infrastructure, for example Junction 10a of the M20
  • partner with developers, registered social landlords and local authorities to assist in comprehensive estate development
  • establish a strong investment programme which will support existing quality.

Our activities

Our current activities in the South East include:

  • Heart of Slough: We are facilitating the development of 1,500 new homes along with a new bus station, hotel, shops, leisure and recreation facilities and a new public square.

  • Linton, Maidstone: This award winning development provides 150 new and affordable homes, including shared equity housing. It features modern methods of construction and high quality design and environmental standards.

  • Graylingwell, Chichester: This former hospital site is being redeveloped to provide 800 new homes. It was recently identified by English Heritage as an example of the successful and sensitive reuse of listed buildings.

  • Rowner, Gosport: We are working with the local authority, private sector and registered social landlord partners and the local community to develop this former military site for housing, retail and employment use.

Regional Investment Statement data

The National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP) funding is allocated through a process of continuous market engagement. Our quarterly regional investment statements set out the proportion of this funding that has been allocated for each region.
