Vision for Harrow Town Centre open for consultation

Published date : 31 January 2012

Harrow Council’s proposed vision for the future of Harrow Town Centre, Wealdstone and Station Road, referred to collectively as the Heart of Harrow, is now out for consultation.

Alongside a blog on the Council website, ten drop-in sessions are being staged over the next six weeks where people can find out more, talk to planning officers and voice their opinions on this major planning policy.

The Council has drawn up a draft masterplan for the area following workshops with residents, businesses, developers and community groups throughout last year. The masterplan will shape the planning and investment decisions in the area. It could see millions of pounds of new investment by private enterprise, the Council and partners over the next decade, creating 3,000 new jobs alongside new homes and infrastructure.

Jamie Ratcliff, HCA Area Manager for North West London, said:

“Our role has included sitting on the Area Action Plan Project Board to provide advice and ensure the alignment of emerging projects and priorities with potential funding. We recognise the importance of this scheme to the borough and are fully behind the consultation.”

Cllr Keith Ferry from Harrow Council said:

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to help create a clear future vision for the Heart of Harrow area.

“The masterplan aims to steer new development and influence future decisions about transport, shopping, leisure and employment uses – alongside enabling the improvement of streets, parks and open spaces to meet the needs of both existing and new residents and businesses.

“I have been encouraged by the level of interest and comments that we have already received through this process so far. I hope that people will take the time to review this latest document and let us know what they think about our aspirations for Harrow and particular proposals for sites across the area that we have identified.”
