Manchester Salford

The Manchester Salford housing market renewal pathfinder is tackling housing issues in areas across the neighbouring cities of Manchester and Salford.

The Manchester Salford pathfinder covers the Harpurhey, Cheetham, Lower East Corridor and Moss Side areas of Manchester, and the Seedley/Langworthy, Higher Broughton, Lower Broughton and North Irwell areas of Salford.

Both Manchester and Salford have experienced significant population decline during the last 50 years, largely as a result of de-industrialisation and new investment and employment growth elsewhere in the North West. This decline has undermined the sustainability of important social amenities and local services.

The Manchester Salford pathfinder aims to catalyse housing markets in its key intervention areas by delivering:

  • high quality mixed tenure neighbourhoods that meet the needs of existing and future residents
  • unique offerings that support home ownership
  • strategic site acquisitions and land assembly for new developments and clearance of derelict or uninhabitable housing
  • targeted improvements to retained stock through partnerships with private sector firms such as Urban Splash, Taylor Woodrow and Lovell, as well as registered social landlords.
