Kickstart Round 1

The Kickstart Housing Delivery programme is targeted at stalled sites and aims to unlock the construction of high quality mixed tenure housing developments. The first tranche of successful schemes under Round 1 was announced in September 2009 and now six months later progress to get workers back on site and stalled development back on track has been rapid.

To date 86 schemes from across the country are back on site with more than 50 more due to start over the next six weeks.

Scheme expectations
Under Round 1 the broad requirements that each successful scheme needed to have met are to:

  • Be a minimum of 50 units
  • Have received detailed planning permission by 1 September 2009
  • Fit with locally identified needs and priorities
  • Complete on site by 31 March 2011


Key statistics
Contracts have been signed on 140 schemes in Round 1 equating to total funding of £421 million to unlock more than 11,000 new homes, to include over 5,000 affordable properties (to buy and to rent) and nearly 6,000 open market homes. Over 60 per cent of the schemes are expected to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 or higher
