Understanding Place-making
Understanding place-making is a course from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) that will give you a fundamental grounding in what makes different types of places sustainable. It’s delivered entirely online and consists of small chunks spread over 10 weeks so you don’t have to take time out of work.
Whether you’re fairly new to the industry or someone who wants to catch up with the latest policy context, this highly-rated course will improve your knowledge and help you to be more effective in your work to create great places.
Recently updated to reflect changes in policy and direction, this introductory course provides a fundamental grounding in what makes different types of place sustainable. Past participants come from a variety of backgrounds including the third and voluntary sectors, housing associations, local government, statutory agencies and the private sector.
The core course lasts ten weeks and provides an opportunity for students to share ideas and experiences in virtual workshops. You will learn more about:
- What makes a place sustainable
- Current policy context
- Building skills and capacity
- Roles and responsibilities
- How to put theory into practice
Completion of the core course is recognised by the award of an HCA completion certificate. However, an ILM accredited version is also available, leading to the award of the ILM Level 5 Award in Leadership (Regeneration & Place-making). This involves completion of an additional assignment in which you are asked to reflect upon your learning from the course. You can opt to work towards this ILM qualification from the beginning, or progress to it after completion of the core course.
